RIP Lakeside Club

As time goes on we realize not everything lasts forever, and just recently, we lost another longtime establishment. After 60 years, the Lakeside Club located at 10 Old Wildwood Rd in Mahtomedi Minnesota is no more.

The supper club was started by Al Mahmood and his children, Paul, Cheryl, Craig and Susan, have operated it over the years.

At one point, the club once had 5,000 paying members from across the Twin Cities. Once in a while you would see a local celebrity stop in for some steak.

After years of operation, the current owners, sisters Sue & Cheryl Mahmood made the hard decision to serve the final steak and sell the property. And yes as you guessed it, an apartment complex will be built in it’s place.

So why else am I writing about this place? Well only because it was the setting for the best bar scene in all of cinematic history! Yes the Lakeside Club was featured in what could be the most classic Minnesota themed movie “Fargo” … even though it’s named after a town in North Dakota but of course you probably already knew that……Ya….yaaaaa.
