Pro Wrestling’s Alcohol Ad-Ventures
A topic I have always touched on but never actually wrote an article about; Pro Wrestlers and Beer Consumption….or in this case…products!
Well the day has finally come! Sure I’ve made posts on facebook and instagram about Andre’s legendary drinking habits and Ric Flairs party days but this one is going to be about the actual product creation and marketing by former wrestlers to supplement their incomes.
If you haven’t seen the classic Jesse The Body or Mad Dog -Chicago Lake Liquors commercials before, I invite you to head on over to the Land of Sky Beer Waters YouTube page to check those and other classic commercials out, link is on the header of this website and below in this very article.
I think I’ll start with one that should be the most obvious, since it was pretty much featured in every match he was ever in and that is, Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Back in the day he was known as Stunning Steve Austin because of his flowing blond hair…(yes really, he had hair) but his stint in the WWF…er I mean WWE was that of a beer swilling bad boy.
I think the best occasion that featured his beer drinking was, the beer truck incident! Vince and Shane McMahon are out in the ring doing the typical promo when Austin drives an actual beer truck into the arena and precedes to spray the McMahons with beer in the ring.
So Austin teamed up with El Segundo Brewing Company which was actually very close to where he lived at the time to produce an IPA of all things, even though he drank many many light beers in the ring. I actually have not tried it yet, I did spot it once in Wisconsin but had too much else on my list so I skipped it. But last I heard it was available in Minnesota, so I’ll definitely grab some next time I see it.
Broken Skull IPA is 6.7% ABV and is now joined by Broken Skull 3:16 a Double IPA and also an American Lager which are all available in tall boy cans.
If you are a follower of my Facebook and Instagram accounts you would have seen my recent posts on the newest entry into the beer world and that is none other than the real American himself, Hulk Hogan.
Yes the Hulkster has just released his own brand of Light beer which is mighty tasty if I do say so myself. Hogan recently did a tour of the Twin Cities a week ago and I tried my hardest to track him down but in what I heard the distro company promoting the beer, cancelled all his appearances at actual liquor stores…but then magically showed up at one that claimed he wasn’t going to be at …..yeah it’s that silly.
But he eventually made his way to the Mall of America, in the same exact spot the first ever Monday Nitro took place coincidentally and did a meet and greet. By the time I found out where he was, it was already too late and I was occupied with other things happening. But if you haven’t seen my review of the Hulksters beer already check it out below. The beer itself is an easy drinkin 4.2% ABV and is being contract brewed at a few different locations across the country so you should be able to find it soon.
Next up is not so much beer but wine! Yes who would’ve thought the Undertaker and Ultimate Warrior had such fine tuned pallets haha.
The WWE itself decided to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Dead Man with a wine. Keeping with the theme of 30, they did a 30 barrel production of a Cabernet Sauvignon developed with Wines That Rock, known for their Star Trek Picard wines among others. Each bottle was hand numbered and were very popular when they were released.
As for the Ultimate Warriors wine offering, it was a Zinfandel and came with three unique cork designs with an image of the Warrior himself and even had a couple of his signature phrases too!
I’ll let the fine gentlemen over at Wrestling with Wregret take the reins on reviewing these excellent delights.
Hey remember that one wrestler that was a movie star and friends with Arnold Schwarzenegger and then got into politics and eventually became the actual Governor of Minnesota? Yeah him, he now has an edible cannabis line!
Yes, it’s true, Jesse the Body is back and he’s got weed! Jesse was actually a big advocate for legalizing marijuana back when he was Governor in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. His dreams have finally come true when Minnesota made weed legal last year and he now has his chance to make some profit off that and has his own line of THC edibles from none other than Minnesota based Retro Bakery & “Jesse Ventura Farms”.
Some of the flavors are Maui Wowie, Berry Gelato and Dabbalicious Bubblegum. These literally just hit the market so if you are into edibles and Jesse, I’d say check these out at your usual store and websites and etc.
Oh I ended up meeting him at one of his release events at a liquor store in St Paul and got to try some of the non THC versions of the gummies. They tasted decent but I wouldn’t even know where to start if I got into this type of thing.
Also on a side note I was wearing a Van Halen shirt that day and he made a joke saying that Weird Al should make a song for Trumps running mate called Runnin with the Felon…everyone in the store had a good laugh at that. And I think Jesse was even impressed by his own joke because he said “See, I still go it”.
And finally, how about we talk about the Rock’s Tequila. Yes the People’s Champion has also jumped into the scene with his own brand called Teremana Tequila. The Rock states he’s been a longtime Tequila fan and has been wanting to get into making his own for some time. His hard work paid off too because back in 2021, Teremana won “Tequila of the Year” at the USA Sprirt Ratings event.
It looks like he has a couple variations now… Blanco, Reposado and Anejo. Check them out wherever you get your drink on!
