49ish Years of Guzzle ‘N Twirl
So when I first wrote this article and made the video, someone told me it was the 50th year of the Guzzle n twirl but then later, someone then said it was only the 49th year. So I’m here to edit this article slightly but the origins still seems hazy…get it, hazy haha.
Well as they say time flies by when you’re having fun and that’s what’s happening over at the North Star Brewery Collectibles Chapter.
In April of 1973, a group of beer can collectors decided to meet up on a Sunday in the Hamm’s Brewing Company parking lot to hold a beer can collectors show ….and thus the North Star Chapter was born.
The first Guzzle ’N Twirl was actually held in 1974 at St Bernards Hall on Rice and Geranium in St Paul MN. As the show grew, new locations were found to fit the crowd, including (which in my opinion would’ve been the coolest) at The Rathskeller in the Sky at the old Hamm’s Brewery…WOW!
Eventually the event found a home at St Peters Church in the basement hall but around the year 2000, a new priest came onto the scene and booted the beer fest out which forced the North Star Chapter to find a new home for the show.
And as you might have guessed it, the new location for the long running Guzzle ‘N Twirl then became where it is now held today at Aldrich Arena in Maplewood MN!
So I just want to take this time to say Congratulations to the North Star Chapter for 50?? years of beer collecting! If it wasn’t for this group Id probably still be buying overpriced knock off Hamm’s stuff with fake rust on ebay…..haha
