Hamm’s sign spotting

Original post October 2015

Just when you thought there were no more classic beer signs to be found in the metro area, another is discovered. Thanks to “invinylveritas” on instagram, I was able to track this one down in a alley behind the Trend Bar in St Paul.

At first I couldn’t figure out where it was because all I knew is that it was in an alley off Snelling and University but as I scanned the roof lines I finally saw it down the block. Then I saw in all it’s glory, a 1950’s era Hamm’s sign still hanging in the same spot it’s always been without any damage done to it (except for one light missing) !

It was kinda hard to get a good angle because of the support bars and the barbwire fence itself that surrounded the area back there. I was gonna climb on top of a dumpster but some people were either moving in or out of a building about a 100 feet away and were already wondering what I was doing taking a picture of something back there.

The funny thing is I used to go to Pat’s skateboard shop back in the 90’s that was in the building right next door. Back then you had to walk between the buildings and go up the side steps to get in and then go down the hallway, my parents were like what is this? haha.

Maybe I should’ve stopped in the Trend Bar for a quick one after…ahh maybe next time…er not.

P.S. I updated the pictures of this sign because I went back a year or so ago during the winter and got up on top of that dumpster I was talking about haha. Also you arent imagining it, there is an icicle hanging off the side of the sign.
