The Fytens Take over At Northgate Brewing

The Fytens Take over At Northgate Brewing

News broke yesterday via the Growler that Northgate Brewery has been sold to Tod and Madeline Fyten. The name might be familiar because they also head up other brewing ventures such as Stagecoach, Fytenburg, and St. Croix beers.

I could go into details and stats on brewey lifespans & timelines here but I wont because I’m actually quite surprised by this, not because Adam, Todd and Tuck sold the brewery but because the Fyten’s bought it.

Last I head they were opening up a small brewery across from the Schmidt Artist lofts which I haven’t seen or heard anything come from that. And also they were remodeling a house in Stillwater to have a taproom there as well. I’ve talked to Tod a couple times before and he is a man with many ideas, kind of like myself, but I would almost suggest getting one project done before taking on another.

Maybe this will be his main Twin Cities base to brew stuff and send it to the other taproom locations? But wait I’m sure you can only have one taproom for a brewery, but then again if these breweries have different names maybe that’s the loophole you need to take on this project?? Or maybe the Northgate name will go away and this will be the new location for Fytenburg? I hope not cuz I like the British theme and the Harry Potter events and etc. At this point nobody really knows because there hasn’t been an official announcement yet.

Another point I want to make is that this might also affect Insight Brewing since they had Northgate produce most of their flagship beers last summer to keep up with that stupid Crazy Aunt beer they had. Insight is planning another gimmick beer next summer so they might have to fish in another pond to make up for the demand for beers you shouldn’t drink.

Now that I think about it, do these beers even exist or am I living in different dimension AHHHHH. I actually haven’t seen Stagecoach, Fytenburg or St Croix beers anywhere in TC metro area stores…or maybe I just haven’t been looking hard enough..I dont know weird.

Someone “texted” me a photo a few months back. Dry shelf placement of the full line of Mantorville/Fytenburg/St. Croix brands, all a few months past-code and all for a sweet, sweet closeout price of 2.99/six-pack,

(I believe the photo originated at Big Top in Eagan — near enough to your ancestral stompin’ grounds, no?)

At any rate, the brands are out there, but their placement is not as wide as many more familiar Microbrew -to- Craft Beer era brands with which so many are familiar.

It will be interesting to see what happens.
